Dr. Joseph Smith attended the Ohio State University on an athletic scholarship and became a 3 year starter and 4 year varsity letter winner as an offensive lineman on the Buckeye football team. He earned his Undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from the college of Agriculture where he majored in Animal Science. At Ohio State he achieved Academic All Big Ten and became Academic status his junior and senior seasons. Dr. Smith also received the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor Recipient as a senior. He was named the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete of the year in 1982. He bypassed the NFL draft when he was accepted to Veterinary School at Ohio State University where he graduated cumlaude and became a member of the Society of Phizela Honor Society in 1987. Dr. Smith and his wife of 34 years have 4 children and 2 dogs, Macy, a German-Shorthair Pointer and Miley, a Yorkiepoo. They are of the Christian faith and regularly attend White Oak Christian Church. Dr. Smith is the Medical Director at VCA College Hill Animal Hospital and is on the advisory committee of Great Oaks (Diamond Oaks) Veterinary Assisting program. He is also a member of the CVMA, OVMA, and AVMA. His special interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery and his hobbies include shooting sports, fishing, college athletics, bible study and gardening.
