Dr. Buerkle is originally from Charleston, SC and grew up with an early love of animals. She graduated in 2009 from North Carolina State University with a BS in zoology, and then obtained her doctorate from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. After completing a rotating internship at a VCA specialty hospital outside of Chicago, she joined the VCA Palmetto team in 2014.

Dr. Buerkle primarily works in our Emergency department on cats and dogs, but also occasionally sees small mammals and reptiles. Her special interests include pain management, internal medicine and ultrasound. She enjoys learning about new human and veterinary medical research to expand our knowledge of how to best treat our animal family members.

Dr. Buerkle has two dogs, several fish, and a Kenyan sand boa named Basil. In her leisure time she enjoys thrifting and exploring the Grand Strand with her husband and young son.
