Dr. Gina Johnson joined the VCA Santa Monica Dog and Cat Hospital team in 2017. Born in Naples, Italy, her adopted hometown is Portland, Oregon. She completed her undergraduate studies at Willamette University and Portland State University. She attended veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, and graduated with honors. During veterinary school, she studied exotic and zoo animals such as raptors, gorillas, and alligators, but ultimately found herself drawn to her first loves: cats and dogs.

Dr. Johnson's professional interests include feline medicine, palliative care, dentistry, and pathology. In her free time, she enjoys writing science fiction and fantasy, drawing, video games, birdwatching, playing the ukulele, catching Pokemon, and spinning fire. Dr. Johnson resides in Culver City with her husband Ben and their cat, Mouse.

Mouse is VCA SMDC's former clinic kitty, previously known as Mama Cat. Her hobbies include chasing the laser pointer, chewing on buttons, and meowing for food.
