Hi, I'm Dr. Helen and I was born and raised in Chetek, WI. At the ripe old age of 5 years, I told my Mom that I wanted to be a veterinarian. 21 years later, I achieved that goal, graduating from UW-Madison as a DVM in June of 1997. 26 days later, I was lucky enough to start working at what is now VCA Spooner Veterinary Hospital. I have been here ever since.
I do enjoy most aspects of our small animal practice, but I particularly like working with dermatology cases. I love engaging the staff and pet owners to learn about the various diseases, tests, and treatment we work with. I believe knowledge is power and will help our pets be better taken care of. Of course, playing with puppies and kittens is the highlight of all of our days. I am ever so grateful to work with a kind, highly educated, highly motivated yet hilarious group of coworkers.
I currently share my life with my husband of 20 some-odd years, Rick; a mutt with a jacked up grill, Bucky; the cats, Mo, the hillbilly from Missouri, and Giblet, the diva from Spooner; as well as a tank full of random fish. I love the spring and summer seasons in Wisconsin, spending time tending to my various gardens or being near or on any available bodies of water, fishing if at all possible. In the winter, I try and stay warm and motivated, hoping to escape to warmer destination, seeking out sand and seawater whenever possible.
