Microchipping

At VCA Katy Trail Animal Hospital, we are devoted to the safety of every dog or cat.  Every year pets are lost and can be reunited with their family if they are microchipped.  Even if your pet wears a collar with an identification tag, your pet should be microchipped because the collar may come off or the tags may be damaged or unreadable.

We strongly recommend that all pets be microchipped.  Microchipping is a safe, dependable, and simple identification solution that will dramatically increase the chances that you will recover your pet in the event he/she goes missing.

This minor, painless procedure implants a tiny chip the size of a grain of rice between your pet’s shoulder blades and under the skin. Each tiny microchip is encoded with your contact information and other information about your dog or cat.  We can microchip your dog or cat during any routine office visit.  It is a simple procedure and no anesthetic is required.

How does Microchip Implementation Work if a Pet Goes Missing?

Most animal hospitals and animal shelters across the country are equipped with scanners capable of detecting and reading microchips.  When a lost pet is found and brought to a hospital or shelter, his or her microchip will be scanned.  The information will be checked against a national database so owner and loving companion can be reunited.

We encourage you to microchip your pet today.
