Dr. Richard Seaman, owner of the Madeira Veterinary Hospital, was born and raised on a farm in northwest Ohio where his love of animals began. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 from Miami University, then entered the Army and was a staff sergeant in Vietnam, returning in 1970. Two days after his return, he began working on his Master of Science degree at Miami, which he completed in 1972.
After earning a Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from the University of Kentucky, he went on to the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where in 1979 he was awarded a DVM. degree. He practiced small-animal medicine and surgery in Cincinnati his entire veterinary career. Married for 38 years, he and his wife Judy had two children: Brad, a DVM, who has his own small animal practice in Brooklyn, New York, and Megan, who lives next door with her husband and their three children. Dr. Seaman enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, and being a grandpa.
