Karalyn Buttrill (formerly Kuchenbecker)
Medical Director
DVM
Dr. Karalyn Buttrill found her calling to veterinary medicine while caring for injured coastal wildlife in Southern California. She attended Brown University and received her Bachelors of Science with Honors in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 2006. She continued her education at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, receiving her doctorate in 2010. Following graduation, she completed a one-year, rotating, small animal internship at New England Animal Medical Center that comprised of Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and General Practice rotations. Family drew her to Denver, Colorado from 2012 to 2018 where she was able to hone her laparoscopy and dentistry skills. She was finally able to find her forever home in the Pacific Northwest in 2018.
Though she is particularly passionate about minimally invasive soft tissue surgery aka laparoscopy (spays, cryptorchid neuters, prophylactic gastropexies, and liver biopsies, oh my!), she also enjoys complicated dental procedures, puzzling internal medicine cases, and alleviating chronic pain in our geriatric friends. As the Medical Director, Dr. Buttrill continues her passion for teaching and maintaining the highest quality of medicine while fostering the human-animal bond.
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, art, cooking, and hanging out in North Portland with her family. She shares her home with a very smart, mixed-breed dog and a goofy, confident tabby cat.
