Larry Berkwitt
Veterinarian Specialist - Internal Medicine

Dr. Berkwitt received his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University in 1975, and then completed an internship and residency in small animal internal medicine at the same institution, in 1978. He became a board certified diplomate in The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine after completing rigorous exams in both 1978 and 1980.

He became the first internal medicine specialist in Connecticut and began a referral/emergency practice. As he built his relationships with his colleagues throughout the state, the practice grew to include multiple specialties.

He developed, along with his associates, a nationally recognized internship program from which many of its graduates have gone on to specialty training in multiple fields, and returned to Connecticut to practice. Almost all of the current specialty hospitals throughout the state have one of his graduates working there as either an emergency veterinarian or specialist.

In 2017, he was awarded Connecticut Veterinarian of the Year in recognition of his leadership, contribution to teaching, and state of the art veterinary care. He is excited to return to VCA Shoreline and will be seeing appointments on Thursdays and Fridays.

Personally, he and his wife Jean enjoy traveling, New York Times crosswords, Ohio State Football and their children and grandchildren.
